THIS IS A LETTER THAT WAS POSTED UP BY CRAIG SAUNDERS

TO THOSE CONCERNED ABOUT THE TULI ELEPHANTS

Welcome. This is the home of Craig and Ann Saunders and our children. We are Elephant-lovers just like you.

We have spent the last 11 months working very close to the Tuli Elephants trying to find solutions in order to get them out of the training facility. As a last desperate measure we attempted to purchase the 14 Tuli elephants 2 months ago, but could only manage to raise enough money out of personal savings to purchase five. We as South Africans were appauled by the images of cruelty we have seen inflicted on the Tuli Elephants. Fiona, Sally, Tuli, Laura, Tina, baby, Bibi, Sahu, Shira, Sugar, Tarzan, Kelly, Sara and Nelly are all close to our hearts. We have spent all our time and used all our money over the last four years trying to find solutions for the plight of African Elephant across the globe.

Right where you are standing today protesting, we have built a learning centre. We are committed to giving love, protection and care to the Elephants and to educating all South Africans (whether, white or black, rich or poor) about the history and plight of African Elephants. This is so that our children and their children will be have the knowledge and insight of how better to safe-guard the Future and Welfare of Our Elephants in the future.

We ask you for the sake of the Elephants to direct your energies where they are needed and share our dream of finding solutions for all Elephants.

"There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers."

Proverbs 6:16-19

Please pass this on to someone else who really cares.

Personal Observation: Something doesn't sound right. In the Carte Blanche program tonight (18 July) Mr. Saunders stated he had "sacrificed family time to be with the elephants", and "I had never seen any abuse of the elephants". So Why the attempt to get them out of the training facility? Why a "last desperate measure 2 months' ago"?? Surely if he was happy that the training wasn't cruel, a desperate measure to remove them would not be necessary. Did he never see the bruisings and welts and injuries on the bodies of the elephants during the time he spent with them???
