Very
Important: The elephant bomas are less than 500m from the road
and whilst the public cannot see the elephants - the elephants can hear and smell
everything from their bomas. There are many other wild animals held at AGS, some only
recently out of the wild. These animals have extremely sensitive hearing and smell -
(these senses enable them to survive in the wild), the noise of people chanting and
shouting, the noise of vehicles and bikes driving up and down, and the collective smell of
vehicle fumes, deodorants etc are EXTREMELY STRESSFUL AND FRIGHTENING TO THE ANIMALS!
The animals do not understand what you are chanting about, or why there is so much noise
and strange smells and are terrified by the disturbance, especially as in these
circumstances they cannot see where the noise is coming from and are confined in cages and
camps and thus feel they cannot move away from the disturbance. (Antelope when scared may
bolt into boma walls and fences, injuring themselves badly. Others may be affected by not
eating or fighting with cage mates or attacking or rejecting their young.)
The message above is from "Wildcare". In fact they asked for the protest not to take place at AGS! Please do take the above into consideration at any protests at AGS and don't do anything to cause stress to the animals - and we now have an admission that there are many more animals confined in cages!!
