Tuli jumbo owner to be prosecuted.

9 September 1999:

Tuli elephant owner Riccardo Ghiazza will be prosecuted in terms of the Animal Protection Act, SABC news reported on Thursday.

The office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions has decided to prosecute Ghiazza and his business, African Game Services.

Ghiazza has been in the news since September last year when he bought 30 elephants from the Botswana Tuli Reserve to be tamed for zoos and safari parks.

He and his company have been entangled in ongoing court battles with the National Council of the Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals about the alleged abuse the elephants were subjected to while they were being trained. - Sapa
