A ruling on the review of a Brits magistrate's decision giving the National Council of the SPCA seizure of 30 Tuli elephants will be handed down in the Pretoria High Court on Monday, the NSPCA said on Friday.

The magistrate gave the NSPCA seizure of the 30 Tuli elephant calves in October 1998 and again in December 1998. He considered this to be necessary to prevent cruelty or suffering to the elephants.

The NSPCA said it had already laid criminal charges of cruelty to the young elephants against Riccardo Ghiazza, the owner of the elephants, and his company, African Game Services. - Sapa
